Item No 1

In Brunei, anyone who is younger than you can be called ‘lai’.

I was told that ‘love’ carry the same function as ‘lai’ here in UK.

However, that belief was violated when I heard a young nurse said ‘love’ to an old man. (Unless she’s using botox that would be a different case)

Imagine calling anyone older than you ‘lai’. Surely you will lose your head the moment you look away.

My leg Breathes

It was genetic. A fate that I carried for 9 years. Last December, God answered my prayer and took it away from me.

SDC10048 Varicose vein happens when the valve that prevents the backflow of blood stops working. In my case, the right leg valve.

It was during the last months of my primary years the vein began to bulge. However at that time I thought it was the normal bulge that any fat kid would have.

The bulging became more apparent in my first year of high school. The sudden increased in weight may have contributed its accelerated growth. My mom brought me to a GP and I was told to wear a pressure stocking. (Apparently at that time the size wasn’t large enough to raise a need for surgery)

Not until my third year that my other aunt, a junior cardiologist seen the increasing bulge and told me that it was possible to remove it through surgery.A welcoming news to a teenager who loves short pant. So there I was meeting my first specialist, Dr. Tang. He was the most unfriendly doctor I ever encountered in my life. Hoping for a surgery what I got was more appointment. After my third appointment (The time between appointments kept increasing that lasted almost a year) with him, seeing no progress at all, I decided to stop seeing him and continue my life with pressure stocking.

During my pious years (4-5), I came to a conclusion that the varicose vein was there as a result of my sin: wearing short pant. In Islam, a man is not allowed to show his body parts between the belly button and the knee. I violated the rule. With my extreme religious faith, I hoped for a miracle: An overnight disappearance of the varicose vein. After meeting a gnostic, that very thought was laughable.

When I went back to Brunei last summer, my dad insisted that I should resumed my appointment. It was not the first time he nagged me about it. It’s just I always procrastinate (that goes for everything else).

It was only a month before my flight back to UK that I had my appointment. I told the doctor about my flight he suggested that I should come back in December for the surgery. Obviously that didn’t happened.

SDC10212

In UK, I met a local GP and she referred me to Birmingham University Hospital. It was the best thing that happened in my life. Had I followed Amal for the trip I wouldn’t be able to go for surgery. Believe me when I said the waiting time could take up to years. Thank Lord mine was only 3 months.

The surgery was painfully bearable. I remember how it felt when the vein was removed from my leg. Felt like someone pinching me out of extreme anger. Post surgery was also painful. I could barely walked straight. When I stood, I could feel the movement of blood towards my feet, comparable to cram of one whole leg.

Today (22/04/09, 12.30 pm) I was discharged@no more appointments, and allowed to live a life without stocking. It felt weird without the stocking on. 9 years …Its like some part of me is missing. I do believe I will get over it soon. With that aside, the first thing I do when I reach home is to show my new leg to my parent. Without them, none of this is even possible.

I have this great idea in my head. I’ll post it as soon as that idea manifest. It involves a friend living along Bristol road. You need to wait for future posts for you to find out what it is.

BBSS 2nd BBQ

Noon till late. My definition of ‘noon’ is anything between 12 and 4 p.m. The weather wasn’t so promising. I arrived on time late but fortunately the bbq just started. It sucks to not do anything but sat on a couch like some outcast from planet Mars. Well actually I can do something but I felt awkward. It felt like I am new to the people there. (Which of course not). There is a psychological explanation to that phenomena though, its called unnecessary social degradation shyness. I made that up. Seriously, I am more shy towards the Bruneian than the drunken humanoid in pubs. Why? I don’t know. (With that said, this does not suggest any kind of antagonistic feelings)

Things lighten up a little bit when I had a nice chat with Khal. It went a little better when Ka Yun offered me the Strawberry chocolate. The chicken was awesome. The game was brilliant! That’s the reason why I wrote this post, the game. It kicked my usds out of the window. Lets get started shall we.

SDC10180

The organizers. I loved candid picture, it brings the ‘real’ out of everyone. : )

We were divided into 3 groups: No 1, No 2 and No 3. I belonged to group No 1. It is against my laziness to write every single name of members but this is an exception (you guys are super awesome): Kash, Tony, Hjh Diyana, Fatin, Shuhir, Naili and Tikah.

I like this picture so much.

Game 1: Poster

We were to create a poster for BBSS easter bbq in 5 minutes. Working under pressure really brings the best out of everyone. We won this round. And we received two cute easter eggs.

Game 2: …

I don’t know the name of the game but we lose this round. Arranged ourselves according to the instructions drawn from the game master.

Game 3: …

Tony acted as celebrities and we had to guess who. We got four out of five. We won this round.

Break

Game 4: Pop the balloon

SDC10160 Not this balloon, but I found this drawing ridiculously funny.

Tied to our legs.

SDC10189

We had to remove opponents’ balloon.

SDC10195

Three of my group members against her. Fadz was persistent, very cheeky. In the end, her balloon burst deflated which led to our victory for this round. Another easter eggs for us.

Game 5: Polygon

A string was given. We were told to form a pentagon with the string with our eyes closed. Tony, Hajah and Kash were the instructors while the rest of us listened. We lost this round.

Game 6: Creative Music

I love this game! We were given a music (Don’t cha) and we had to create new lyric based on that music. The lyric was based on a selected theme given by the GM. We got kicap (Dark Soy Sauce) as our theme. We won this game. The winning lyric:

aku suka kicap (suka kicap)
kicap masin (kicap masin)
kicap pakat, manis, cair semua ku talan (semua ku talan)
campur sama nasi (sama nasi)
nasi ayam (nasi ayam)
nasi ka yun masak memang nyaman hantap
chorus:
pernah kamu makan nasi sama kicap (hey)
nyaman jua cacah sama lalap (hey)
pernah? (nyaman)
tapi jgntah luan byk kicap (hoi)
nanti muha itam jadi galap (huh)
galap~ (hantap~)

found out about this amazing brand through google (In desperate attempt to make my gaming experience more ‘gaming’). Buying this baby after exam. Last but not least

1816660

Apartment for next semester. Costing at *** per month exclusive, this baby is awesome for bachelor like me. No more bayie nigerian hallmates (2) and their friends (bayie irresponsible individuals). Best of all, I would live a walking distance to all ma friends. If this baby is not available for rent then Jewellery Quarters seems ok.

Crazy possible plans for summer:

1. Go to NY on the 28th of June 2009. Stay till 13th July 2009. Go back brum, take my results and fly to Brunei on the 15th July 2009.

2. Live in Ipswich for the rest of the summer till 15th July 2009.

3. Live in Bruhall and endure the sight of snob Bruneian.
